How this pipe volume calculator works
Cross-sectional area is π times the radius squared, with the diameter converted from inches to feet. Multiplying by length gives cubic feet, and 7.48052 cubic feet per gallon converts to US gallons.

- The same 50 ft at 4 in inside diameter holds 32.64 gallons. Four times the volume for twice the diameter.
- A small line
- 1/2 in inside diameter over 50 ft holds only 0.51 gallons, which is why a long half-inch run takes so little water to purge.
